Making FAMOUS Graphic Designs Better!! (Before & After Design)

In todays video I make some changes to famous graphic designs in another ‘before and after’ style video. I know you do enjoy watching and following along with these videos, where I take existing designs and then apply some changes, ultimately elevating the design up. But can I really make these famous graphic designs any better??

Hi Bro, First of all, you have been in YT since 2014 and YT just decided to show this channel to me. Less than a million subs – that’s a crime. Okay coming to the design, I often use typography and I have a doubt in the 2nd example. How do I choose “which fonts go well with other fonts” – I often spend hours deciding on fonts and it eats up most of my time. If you ever get the time please do reply.

It’s an old one, but it’s my first time watching this video so here’s my thoughts:

**Marmite:** I think the redesign completely misses the fact that the advert as a whole has a flow, and that “Marmite” is part of that flow. It’s the answer to the questions (which have no heirarchy) posed at the start. Then the tag line is a comment about the product.

In other words, the advert is “Hard breakfast? Soft breakfast? No breakfast? Marmite. Dividing the nation since 1902”. Redesigned it’s “Marmite. Hard breakfast? Soft breakfast? NO BREAKFAST? Dividing the nation since 1902”. It makes no sense and completely destroys the advert.

**Heineken:** The emphasis seems to have been put in completely the wrong places. “Great taste” is a more important thing to convey to the consumer than either “money back” or “coming soon”, yet you’ve de-emphasised the former and emphasised both of the latter two. In the original advert “great taste” is the most emphasised element, and in yours only “or your” has less emphasis. Also, the different boldness of fonts for money and back makes them seem disconnected, and the addition of the exclamation mark makes it seem as if for some reason the advert is shouting the word “back”, and only the word “back”.

**Sanitation:** The de-emphasis of “due to basic sanitation” makes it more difficult to read, as does the choice of having the letters formed with negative space. From a distance, half the message of the poster is going to be lost, and that’s the half that ties in with the largest element of the illustration. Also the use of white in the text makes it seem more a part of the illustration, *and* with the text below, rather than all being part of the same sentence, communicating a unified message.

**Gucci:** This is the first design where yours looks better rather than markedly worse, although I would have thought that the fact that it’s a campaign for charity is something that the brand would be wanting to emphasise rather than de-emphasise. Brands don’t involve themselves with charities out of the goodness of their hearts, but so that people will form a positive mental image of them. If you make that the least noticable part of the message, then it makes it look like just another fashion line and misses the entire point of the advert.

It seems like the most consistent theme is that you look at what principles you believe should be applied from a purely aesthetic perspective, and pay no attention whatsoever to what it is that the person commissioning the design actually wants to communicate.

When you change the typespace in sanitation poster, i think you dont really good taste how typography work, the original was match perfectly between typeface and illustration style

You missed a easy trick on Design 4 (GUCCI): Using a Color from the picture to create harmony. E.g. the pink text could’ve been red of the flower Learnt this from a very good Designer πŸ˜†

4:56 I think the original one is better in a way, the font is really good, it is playful and gives it a satirical vibe in like ”seriously, 1 person a minute dies because you can wash your hands?” where your design makes a statement which could scare people away or people feeling called out. I’m not sure where the design is used, I assume public restrooms.
